HAP Supporting Documents

The documents on this page are designed to help you navigate and understand the VAC's Heritage and Archival Program (HAP).

Archive Numbering System

The VAC's archival assets are stored using a numbering system that is inspired by our Finding Aid. Through these categories and basics we are able to have a friendly way of labeling and numbering archive assets

Digitization Standards & Protocols

The VAC's HAP is meant to be a resource that can stand the test of time, part of that vision requires digitization standards that are FADGI(5)+ compliant. These standards ensure that physical assets are minimally handled and that digital records have all the necessary information in the files for historical posterity.

IPTC Standards & Practices

The IPTC Photo Metadata standard is the most widely used standard because of its universal acceptance among photographers, distributors, news organizations, archivists, and developers. This guide will greatly assist you in the creation of visual files for any archive (But especially the VAC's!).

Request To REDTAG or RESTRICT Content

Art, history, and documentation is important; it deserves to be preserved, but we also understand if some content needs to be both saved but restricted. This document helps both you and the VAC ensure that history is saved while privacy or sensitive content is managed appropriately through RED-TAGGING.
