Into The Forest Again, painting by John D. Dawson

Join Volcano Art Center for a special preview event of the exhibition Return Of  ‘Alalā  on August 27 and August 28th in Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. Select artworks from a statewide call to artists celebrating the long anticipated reintroduction of the ‘Alalā, or Hawaii’s native crow, back into Hawai’i’s forests will be on display at Volcano Art Center gallery beginning at 9am on Saturday, August 27th in connection with the Cultural/Festival and BioBlitz hosted by Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. These select works will be available for presale purchase through a silent auction in an effort to raise funds to support the Hawai’i Endangered Bird Program and their long term project of the reintroduction of this important species back into Hawai’i’s native forests. Bidding will open at 9:00am on Saturday, August 27th and close at 6:45pm on Sunday, August 28th at Volcano Art Center Gallery.
Those interested in supporting the event further are welcome to join VAC in a special Hawaiian Blessing by Kumu Kaho’okele Crabbe which will take place in front of Volcano Art Center Gallery beginning at 3:30pm on Sunday, August 28th. Immediately following the blessing a special reception of pupu’s, drinks and live music by Keoki Kahumoku will be available for ticket holders at Volcano House Hotel, directly across the street from the Volcano Art Center Gallery in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Those interested in tickets can purchase them ahead of time online, HERE for $50 or $45 for VAC Members. Proceeds from ticket sales go directly to support the ongoing ‘Alalā release project.  The evening will end back at VAC Gallery with desserts and the final bids for the artwork closing at 6:45pm.

Please join Volcano Art Center in supporting this special conservation effort. The ‘alalā has been extinct in the wild since 2002, with your support we hope that will change.

Purchase tickets here!

A great opportunity to celebrate the National Parks and view TWO very special exhibits is during the free Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park Cultural Festival & BioBlitz on Saturday, August 27, 2016, or during the National Park Service Birthday Weekend which takes place August 25 – 28.  The BioBlitz runs from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the cultural festival is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Park entrance fees are waived and all events are free on these dates.
