Monday Movie Nights: Cheri (2009, R)

In Paris before World War I, elegant cars, mansions, and servants defined the lives of Paris’s elite. Set in this glamorous era is the young Fred Peloux, nicknamed Chéri. He is a handsome young man who lives in the small social circle of his mother’s friends, all of which were high class prostitutes their younger years. The most revered of his mothers friends is an elegant woman by the name of Léa de Lonval, who at the request of Cheri’s mother forms a relationship with young Fred as an attempt to tame him.

But, after six years spent together, the age difference on this odd coupling takes its toll on their union. To please his mother, Chéri accepts to marry a rich courtesan’s daughter, without actually caring for her. The emotional fallout is has Léa de Lonval wondering, has she fallen in love? If so, do she and Chéri, have a future together?
