henna Henna Demo On Friday January 06, 2017

Please join VAC employee Anisha Desai for a Henna Demonstration at VAC gallery in Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park on Friday, January 6th from 2-4:30pm. The free demonstration will highlight the tradition of Henna design.  Donations to VAC gallery can also be made for participants who wish to have the paste applied. $5 suggested donations or up depending on design complexity.

Henna is a paste made out of a powdered leaf of the henna plant.  It is used as stain or dye for skin to create beautiful body art work.  Originally used for special occasions such as weddings it is now used recreationally as a fun creative expression of art!  The dye typically lasts for 2-3 weeks on the skin and gradually fades away.  It also has a very earthy scent to it.

Anisha has grown up with henna being a fun family tradition.  She is currently practicing the art of henna on friends and family in preparation for her own wedding!  The henna she uses is all natural and shipped from India.  She wants to try to incorporate some of her own traditional designs as well as the Polynesian culture.

Come get your Henna on!
