Hula Kahiko at Volcano Art Center feat. Hālau Na Kipuʻupuʻu under the direction of Kumu hula Micah Kamohoaliʻi
The Volcano Art Center’s 2016 Hula Kahiko series continues on Saturday, October 15 at 10:30am with a performance by Hālau Na Kipuʻupuʻu under the direction of Kumu hula Micah Kamohoaliʻi.
The hālau and Kumu Kamohoali‘i are well known for their powerful performances as well as revitalizing many ancient art forms and practices not commonly seen within hula today. They are most famed among the hula community for revitalizing the art and practice of creating kapa. Kamohoali‘i and his hālau will be on hand after the performance displaying the unique hand-made regalia and props used.
The performance will take place in a one-of-a-kind outdoor setting at the kahua hula (hula platform) in the Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. Audience members are encouraged to bring sun/rain gear and sitting mats. National Park entrance fees may apply.
