ArtSci (pronounced: “artsy”): Where Art and Science Meet
Science and Art are often considered to be opposites. With this show we cross that artificial divide and make connections between the two disciplines. The participating artists and scientists have explored ways to collaborate: listen, share, observe, learn, experiment and discover. That is what both artists and scientists naturally do!
Ten scientists from the University of Hawai‘i partnered with ten members of the Honolulu Printmakers to share processes and insights into their respective practices. With a variety of printmaking techniques and diverse fields of science each partnership explored the relationship and met the challenge in different ways. The result is the creation of a portfolio of prints using a traditional printmaking process and an explanatory scientific poster designed for the public to accompany the artwork.
Reception: December 14, 6:30pm at VAC’s Niaulani Campus. Followed by a lively discussion with artists and scientists for future collaborations.
