Volcano Art Center’s Hula Arts at Kīlauea performance series continues on Saturday, July 8th with a presentation by Hālau Nā Mōhai Aloha o Ka Lauaʻe Pā Ola Kapu and Mountain View Elementary hula program under the direction of Kumu Hula John Kuʻuhoamele Cuban. The performance begins at 10:30am in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. National Park entrance fees apply.
Hālau Nā Mōhai Aloha o Ka Lauaʻe Pā Ola Kapu and Mountain View Elementary Hula program goals are for the students to connect to wahi pana (unique places) through their cultural and performing arts and to develop a deeper understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of the cultural heritage of Hawai’i through music and hula. Increasing the knowledge of how hula represents traditions, beliefs, and values of the Hawaiian culture and providing a foundation for the student and a deep understanding and interest in hula that will last a lifetime.
This performance is part of a year-round series sponsored by the Volcano Art Center. For the series, hula groups from across Hawaiʻi are invited to perform in a one-of-a-kind outdoor setting at the kahua hula (platform) in the Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. Audience members are encouraged to bring sun/rain gear and sitting mats.
