“My love of gemology, mineralogy, and geology is first and foremost, and my jewelry reflects this — an aesthetic ode to the stones themselves.”
As a military kid, Stone spent most of his childhood moving from place to place. “I collected more rocks than I was allowed to keep, oftentimes even more than my hands and pockets could hold.” He explored his relationship with art early on, working with his father restoring antiques and carving wood, and later on in high school and college art classes. He was soon traveling the country to mine stones, and then carving and tumbling the specimens he found to make into jewelry. He studied jewelry making and developed the unique, cold-fusion techniques you see in his unique pieces today.
There is no heat or solder used in Stone O’Daugherty’s jewelry. Instead, Stone concentrates on fusing contemporary designs with olde-world, cold connection techniques and draws upon a background of gemology, mineralogy, geology, and silver-smithing. Primarily created with sterling silver and precious stones, each piece is one-of-a-kind, signed and numbered.
Stone is exceptional in designing custom pieces. He states “One of my favorite projects is creating special-order pieces to fulfill the wildest, most unique adornment desires of my customers. While I work primarily with sterling silver, I enjoy creating with other metals as well, including copper, brass, gold and palladium. With respect to gems, I own or have access to a plethora of blood-free stones, from the simple to the extraordinary.”
