Hula Voices featuring Kumu Hula Stacey Kapuaikapoliopele Kaʻauʻa
Wednesday, July 3 | 5:30-7pm
Hula Voices is an engaging, intimate “talk story” session with Hawai‘i’s hula practitioners & musicians. This month features Kumu Hula Stacey Kapuaikapoliopele Kaʻauʻa, with moderator Desiree Moana Cruz. These free, educational offerings occur regularly on the first Wednesday of each month, from 5:30-7pm at the Volcano Art Center Gallery in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park.
Kumu hula Kapua Kaʻauʻa, affectionately known as Kumu ʻAuʻa underwent the ʻūniki rites in December 2014, led by her kumu Dr. Taupōuri Tangarō of Unukupukupu. It is with this that she was bestowed the title of kumu hula. On the winter solstice of 2016, Hālau Unuokeahi opened her doors under the tutelage of Kumu ʻAuʻa. The Unuokeahi traditions stem from her kumu and his kumuʻs from the Kanakaʻole hula ʻaihaʻa traditions in Hilo.
Join us for an engaging, informative, and fun hour as our guests share their hula genealogy, including the traditions, experiences, inspirations for songs, chants and Hawaiian choreography.
