Our Honu design from our ‘Aumakua collection. For Hawaiians, ‘aumakua are family or ancestral gods. Most ‘aumakua had been humans during their life on earth, working, advising and serving as role models. After death their spirits dwelled in the ‘aumakua realm where they were able to communicate with the living in dreams or visions, sometimes warning them of impending danger. In visible form they often appeared as animals such as the pueo (owl), mano (shark), puhi (eel) and honu (sea turtle). -Makua Designs
