Schedule Of HAP Events

Throughout the year the Volcano Art Center hosts many events focusing on the Heritage and Archival Program. Listed below is a list of some of our offerings.

Photo Identification Nights

Every two weeks the Volcano Art Center hosts photo identification evenings in Dietrich Varez Hall on the big screen. The purpose of these evenings is to identify people, places, events, and dates. A few thousand photos/scans have been viewed during these evenings.

Film Screenings

Once a month the Volcano Art Center welcomes the community to view videos and films from the VAC's archive. Prior to its screening, films are digitized, restored, and audio is repaired. This allows participants to better enjoy and identify presented footage.

  • March 28th At 6pm: Unknown Film
  • April 25th At 6pm: Keith Barret At VSAS 2007

Historical Programs & Retrospectives

From time to time the Volcano Art Center has educational evenings we lovingly call "Thursday Night At The Center." Many of these programs vary in subject matter, but a frequent recurring topic is history. If the VAC is hosting any historically themed evenings you will find them listed below.

  • On August 17th The Volcano Art Center is proud to present "Dancing At The Source - Moving The Future" in collaboration with the Big Island Dance Collective, this event and exhibit is a retrospective piece that aims to reflect on the VAC's Dance Retreat Program that began at the founding of the Volcano Art Center. Its founding members included Trina Nahm-Mijo and the late Earnest Morgan. Tickets for this event will be on sale in April 2024.
