Sunday Clay – with Monika Mann

Sunday Mornings 10am – 1pm

4-week session beginning Sunday, March 2, 2025, through Sunday, March 23, 2025.

Please join longtime teaching artist Monika Mann exploring the possibilities in the world of clay through hand building and wheel throwing techniques. Beginners and advanced potters are welcome to create ceramic pieces for fun or function.

Monika Mann will provide instruction for this class including demonstrations of wheel throwing methods and be available for individualized assistance. Those new to clay will be guided step by step through the basics of using the potter’s wheel or handbuilding techniques. Continuing students and those with previous experience are encouraged to develop their skills and are welcome to pursue more advanced directions with the instructor’s helpful input.

Cost for the morning session is $150/$130 for VAC Members plus a $20 material fee, for 6 lbs. of clay, which includes glazes and firing for that material. Additional clay, including firing. will be available for purchase for $20.

Open studio time will be available to registered students Monday – Friday, from 10am – 4pm.  Cost is $20 per day, or $150 per month. You may register at the Administration Office front desk during business hours (Monday – Friday 10am – 4pm).  Must be registered for a ceramics class to participate.

Tuesday Ceramics: Hand building fundamental techniques with tips and tricks with Diane Hanzel

Tuesdays: March 25th – April 15, from 3:30pm. – 6:30pm.
Refresh with a new creative outlet at our open and spacious ceramics studio located in a unique rainforest setting at Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village.

Have you ever wanted to start with Ceramics and don’t know where to begin ? Have you been in Ceramics and would like to know some tricks and tips and techniques that can make it more fun or creative thinking outside the box? This may be the class for you. Diane will be teaching strong fundamentals that are the foundation to help see your artistic vision through. You will start with pinch pot bubbles that can take you in lots of different directions. Then moving into slabs and adding textures and basic oxides and glazes. Learn how to manipulate the clay and work with it. We will be using cone 5 clay and glazes. Definitely Art from the heart.
