Jazz in the Forest: A Tribute to Louis Armstrong

The Volcano Art Center’s Jazz in the Forest series continues on Saturday, October 14th, 2023 at 5:30pm at Volcano Art Center Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village. The evening features Jean Pierre Thoma and the Jazztones.
Enjoy an evening together at the Volcano Art Center with the always swinging JP Thoma and the Jazztones. This concert will focus on the legacy of trumpet and vocal icon Louis Armstrong, who was born at the beginning of the 20th century and contributed more than any single jazz musician to the rich history of American as well as global jazz. He was truly “Ambassador Satch”.
JP -Jean Pierre- Thoma on sax & clarinet; the magnificent Leslie Harlib
performing vocals and piano; violinist and vocalist Mark Caudill filling the Creole musical spot; and Russell Lundgren on percussion.
Some of the dixieland classics to be featured in this autumn concert will be, “The Heebie Jeebies” – one of Armstrong’s earliest
recorded hits with King Oliver; “West End Blues”, which introduced some very modern BeBop licks of introduction; and early hits such as “Undecided”; Tiger Rag”; “Ain’t Misbehavin”,and “When the Saints Go Marching In” We will end with a reminder
of “What a Wonderful World” – his last big hit.
Tickets are $25 for VAC members ($30 non-members)! Ticket holders will be able to purchase pupu, beer and wine. Tickets are available for sale online at www.volcanoartcenter.org, or at VAC’s Administration Office in Volcano Village. The last day to purchase tickets online is Friday, October 13th.
After that, tickets will be sold at the door, if they are not sold out. Tickets will be held at Will Call on the day of the show. OR, you may pick them up any day before the show at Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Campus Administrative Office, Monday through Saturday, 10am-4pm.
