Hula Voices featuring Kumu Hula Kimo Awai
Wednesday, August 7 | 5:30-7pm
Hula Voices is an engaging, intimate “talk story” session with Hawai‘i’s hula practitioners & musicians. This month features Kumu Hula Kimo Awai, with moderator Desiree Moana Cruz. These free, educational offerings occur regularly on the first Wednesday of each month, from 5:30-7pm at the Volcano Art Center Gallery in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park.
Kumu Hula Kimo Awai was born in Honolulu, Hawai’i and attended Lahainaluna High School and the University of Hawai’i at Hilo. He studied the art of hula under the late Aunty Nona Beamer and with major influence from Aunty Pualani “Pua” Kanaka’ole Kanahele. He is Kumu Hula of Hula Hālau Na Po’e Ao Hiwa.
Join us for an engaging, informative, and fun hour as our guests share their hula genealogy, including the traditions, experiences, inspirations for songs, chants and Hawaiian choreography.
