Hula Kahiko featuring Hālau Kawehileimamoikawekiu’oKohala under the direction of Kumu Hula Lorna Kapualiko Lim
Saturday, June 15th | 10:30am – 11:30am
This performance is part of a year-round series sponsored by the Volcano Art Center at the Pa Hula (hula platform) near the Volcano Art Center Gallery in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park.
Hālau Kawehileimamoikawekiu’oKohala opened its doors three and a half years ago in beautiful Hala’ula Kohala. The hālau is based Kumu Lorna Lim’s family home, humbly named “Hale a Ke Aloha” dedicated and blessed by her mom, the late Mary Ann Lim. There the seeds of hula and culture were planted and the hālau’s hula journey has been a blessing ever since.
The hālau was the Overall Winner in the 2019 Moku o Keawe International Hula Festival, and Keiki members of the hālau have also won awards at the Hula O Nā Keiki competition on Maui.
This presentation will be presented authentically in an outdoor setting, rain or shine without electronic amplification. Audience members are encouraged to bring sun/rain gear and sitting mats.
These free events are supported in part by a grant from the County of Hawaiʻi Department of Research and Development and the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority and individual funding from members of the Volcano Art Center’s ʻohana.
