Book Signings with David Kāwika Eyre
The Volcano Art Center (VAC) is pleased to announce two special book signing events with author David Kāwika Eyre at the VAC gallery in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. Eyre will be on hand signing copies of his book Kamehameha–The Rise of a King Saturday, March 9th and again on March 16th from 11am to 1pm both days. These special book signing events are held in conjunction with the current exhibition at VAC gallery NIUHI- SHARK: Honoring Kamehameha the Great in Paint and Prose. The exhibit consists of original art by Carl F.K. Pao paired with selections from this award-winning book written by Kāwika Eyre and is in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of King Kamehameha’s death.
David Kāwika Eyre has taught Hawaiian language at Kamehameha Schools for 23 years. His book Kamehameha—The Rise of a King won a Palapala Po‘okela Award for excellence in Hawaiian culture, a Nēnē Book Award, a Moonbeam Children’s Book Award, and a Read Aloud America selection award. Eyre is the author of 7 books, the most recent being a collection of haiku poems entitled not a one, published by Red Moon Press in 2018.
The Volcano Art Center invites you to meet Eyre and learn more about Hawaiʻi’s Great King through paintings and written word by visiting the exhibit this very special exhibition. NIUHI- SHARK: Honoring Kamehameha the Great in Paint and Prose will be on display at the Volcano Art Center Gallery through March 24th, 2019.
