Birds Of Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park Painting Demo with John Dawson & Reyn Ojiri
Join John Dawson and Reyn Ojiri in painting the Birds Of Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park!
Selected from the Hawai’i Nei 2017 exhibition, both Dawson and Ojiri are considered experts in their field. They have agreed to share their skills and insights with others in a short demonstration/lecture on Friday, March 23rd from 10AM -2PM at the Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village.
Beginning at 10:00am a brief introduction providing insight into what birds are present in Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park will be provided.
Dawson will then provide a short demonstration on how he begins a painting (gathering photos, laying out his grid, etc.) Dawson is well known for his illustrative work has worked for and with The United States Postal Service, National Park Service, United Nations, National Wildlife Federation, University of Hawai‘i at Hilo Imiloa Astronomy Center, the National Geographic Society, and Audubon Society, among many others.
After a short lunch break participants will then watch a short demonstration by Reyn Ojiri, who is a scientific illustrator. Reyn has much experience to share as he has drawn extinct Hawaiian birds at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum, illustrated exhibits at the Bishop Museum, and creating graphics at the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology.
