A craftsperson at heart, June Dalde lives on the Big Island of Hawaii where she enjoys working with her hands and
being creative. For her, art is a means of relaxation and meditation. She enjoys painting, making whimsical lamp work, glass
beads, soldering and working with metals to make unique jewelry…anything that allows
her to use her hands to create detailed art.. Her current endeavor is weaving with
lauhala.
Lauhala refers to the leaves of the hala tree. Hala trees are found throughout the
islands and we are very fortunate that they are abundant here on the Big Island of
Hawaii. All the lauhala in her projects are handpicked and processed. She makes it an
all-day outing to gather the lau and clean them before bringing them home. The lau is
then prepared to weave into various objects such as bracelets, earrings, papale, bottle
holders, ornaments, and wherever her imagination takes her. She thanks
God for giving her talents to create and share with others.
