Thursday Night at the Center: “An Evening of Sculpture”
It’s the first full moon of 2017, and Big Island sculptors, Henry Bianchini and Elizabeth Miller, are inviting everyone for a moonlit walk through the new sculpture garden at Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Campus, weather permitting, at 7pm on Thursday, January 12th for a unique evening about sculpture.
See all eleven pieces in a new light as interpreted by two of the sculptors represented in the garden, Henry Bianchini and Elizabeth Miller. Following the walk, Henry will talk about his recently completed sculpture commissioned by the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts for a school on Oahu and his experience as a sculptor in Hawaii for the past 40 years. Miller will talk about why and how she was pulled away from making primarily 2-dimensional work into the much different arena of sculpture. Both fans of the groundbreaking sculptor, Richard Serra, Henry and Elizabeth will show some short films about his work, which are filled with fascinating insights about the sculpture making process, including that persistent question, “what is art and why make it?”
Join Miller and Bianchini for “An Evening of Sculpture” on Thursday evening, January 12, from 7-9pm. This presentation is part of a once-a-month Thursday evening series at the Volcano Art Center, focusing on art, Hawaiian culture and our environment. The series is intended to inspire, enhance our art and life experience and foster community connections.
