Thursday Nights at the Center: Patrick Ching’s “Inspirations of a Hawai’i Wildlife Artist”

Volcano Art Center is proud to present Patrick Ching’s “Inspirations of a Hawai’i Wildlife Artist” on Thursday, September 8 from 7pm – 9pm in the Niaulani Campus Great Room. Mr. Ching is a renowned Hawaiian conservationist and wildlife artist, author, and ornithological illustrator who has garnered international recognition for his realistic renderings of nature; Hawai’i’s native birds, insects, plants and ferns come alive through his vibrant art.

Mr. Ching’s passion took root long ago while exploring the valleys, shorelines, and remote atolls of Hawai’i. It was during a month-long Outward Bound wilderness program that Patrick saw his first Hawaiian hawk in the sky over Pololu valley.

As he reminisced, “During that experience I decided to devote my life to educating people about Hawai’i’s native wildlife through my art. I paint the places and things that I love with the colors that have surrounded my life. My objective is to take the beauty that I have experienced and bring it into people’s homes and their lives so that they may appreciate the things that are naturally Hawaiian.”

Join us on September 8, from 7pm – 9pm for Patrick Ching’s “Inspirations of a Hawai’i Wildlife Artist”. Get to know the life and stories behind his intricate paintings. Enjoy field sketches of Wallabies, sharks and monk seals, as well as tales of some of Hawai’i’s environmental heroes from days gone by.

This evening is part of Thursday Nights at the Center, an evening series at the Volcano Art Center, focusing on art, Hawaiian culture and our environment. The series is intended to inspire, enhance our art and life experience and foster community connections. The event is FREE, but a $5 donation is greatly appreciated.
