Hula Voices featuring Kumu Hula Micah Kamohoaliʻi
November 1, 2018 | 7 – 8pm
Volcano Art Center Gallery in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park
Volcano Art Center’s 2018 Hula Voices series will continue on November 1 featuring Kumu Hula Micah Kamohoaliʻi, interviewed by moderator Desiree Cruz. Each month, Hula Voices presents an engaging, intimate “talk story” session with Hawai‘i Island’s hula practitioners, as they share their hula genealogy, traditions, protocols and experiences.
As well as being the Kumu Hula of Hālau Na Kipuʻupuʻu, based in Waimea, Micah Kamohoaliʻi is known as a professional artist, producing works in many mediums such as lei making, feather working, photography, printing, painting, clothing, wood and stone carvings, film production and traditional Hawaiian kapa. In all that he does he honors his kūpuna for who he is.
These free, educational offerings occur regularly each month at the Volcano Art Center Gallery in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park. This is the final program in the 2018 series,
but watch for these monthly events to start up again in January 2019. Please join VAC in celebrating the Hula Arts at Kīlauea. Hula Voices is supported in part by a grant from the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority, the County of Hawaiʻi Department of Research and Development and individual funding from members of the Volcano Art Center’s ʻohana.
