Backpacker Knife with Sheath & Koa by Nolan Odachi
Each knife is unique. Slight variations may occur.
This knife was custom-made and hand-forged for you by Nolan Odachi of Odachi Forge in Volcano, Hawai’i.
This style of knife is based on the traditional Japanese utility knife used for many different tasks called kiridashi. The entire knife is forged from a piece of high carbon steel from a vintage saw blade taken from a sawmill on Mauna Kea on the island of Hawai’i .The blade was originally used to only mill trees which were taken down when they were dead or dying.
Knife Care: Your knife is made of carbon steel and it needs to be oiled periodically to prevent rust. Olive oil or other household cooking oil will do. Apply a small amount of oil onto the blade and handle, lightly wipe oil across the entire surface with a paper towel or soft/clean rag. After each use, clean off blade re-oil as directed.
