Father Damien, print M37, by Dietrich Varez. Father Damien, 1840-1889, was a missionary priest who spent the last 16 years of his life serving the quarantined Hansen’s disease patients at Kalaupapa. He was declared a saint by the Vatican on Oct. 11, 2009.
