Kōlea at Waiʻuli by Robert Weiss
The Kōlea or Pacific Golden Plover. A beautiful shorebird (they also love lawns) frequently seen on the Big Island. Shown here in its breeding plumage, the Kōlea migrates north to Alaska to breed and raise its young, returning to the islands for the winter. Some birds choose not to migrate and remain all year round.
