Lili`uokalani, sculpture by Gordon Punt
As he carved this large stone which had washed upon the shore of Waipio Valley, Gordon noticed a woman’s face emerge, that of Queen Lili`uokalani. Carved entirely in Waipio Valley, this piece was donated to Volcano Art Center over 40 years ago. First welcoming visitors to the Gallery in Hawai`i Volcanoes National Park and more recently along the Niaulani forest trail, Lili`uokalani has now found a home in Niaulani Sculpture Garden.
This piece is part of an on-going exhibition at Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Sculpture Garden in Volcano Village.
