“Reading Sam Low’s “Hawaiki Rising” and witnessing Nainoa Thompson at Imiloa prompted me to create a wa’a depicting the traditional Polynesian sailing vessel. Our family followed the launching of Hōkūle’a world tour with pride and prayers.” – Haysmer
After studying art at Madrid University, I received an M.F.A. in Fine Arts at Michigan State University. I taught sculpture and art history at community colleges in Michigan and at the National Art School in Australia. The focus of my current art includes inspiration from local Hawaiian legends, Polynesian navigation, local birds and landscapes.
