Sadleria Unfurl, Photograph by Lanaya Deily.
The unfurling of Sadleria, a genus of ferns native to Hawaii, is a fascinating process. As young fronds (known as fiddleheads or croziers) begin to grow, they start tightly coiled. This coiling protects the delicate growing tip as it develops.
