Join VAC for Voices at VAC Niaulani Campus(19-4074 Old Volcano Rd.), on September 24th at 5pm., featuring renowned local fashion and textile artist Irisgil Viacrusis. Over the past several years, Iolani Palace has commissioned Viacrusis to create historically correct reproductions of gowns and uniforms worn by the ali‘i during the Kalākaua era. In this unique presentation Viacrusis combines a rare PowerPoint presentation of Princess Kaʻiulani with accompanying narrative. This presentation focuses on princess Ka’iulaniʻs formal presentation gown with historical research and reproduction details (prior to it being delivered to Iolani Palace where it will be installed in permanent display.) This program is a very special preview of the gown’s public unveiling at the Palace in Honolulu, scheduled in October to coincide with the anniversary of Kaʻiulani’s birth, and provides exceptional insight of the gown’s details and how it was recreated, stitch by loving stitch. This presentation is supported by Hawaiʻi Tourism.
