Kealakomo, Photograph by Makoa Freitas
This image, taken in the upper reaches of Kealakomo looks over the cliffs of Āpua, the boundary marker between the districts of Puna and Kaʻū. On the topside of the prominent peak in the distance, Puʻu Kapukapu, is the slope of a switch-back trail used by many of the traditional families, travelers, and early ranchers to access the ocean and ship landing at Keauhou.
