4) Pele Sleeps

For years, Pele, the Hawaiian fire goddess, lay sleeping under the quiet community of Pahoa on Hawai‘i Island. On May 4, 2018, she awoke with a volcanic eruption. The earth opened and fountains of lava spouted forth, turning into flowing molten rivers, on a journey to the sea. The eruption ended four months after it started upon reaching the ocean. In the wake of the destruction, there was rebirth, with the new land that Pele has created. She now sleeps again. This was the inspiration for this image.
