Batik Painting on Cloth with Margo Vitarelli – February 28th

Join Margo Vitarelli on Saturday, February 28th from 9am – 2pm at VAC Niaulani Campus (19-4074 Old Volcano Road).
Discover the batik painting process to create colorful hand painted designs on fabric. We will use a modern adaptation of the traditional Indonesian batik process. Instead of using hot wax as a resist to create outlines, we will simplify the ancient art by using a washable glue as the resist before painting the fabric. You will learn the steps of applying the resist to the cloth and painting over it to get the unique look of batik. The class day will be spent drawing our designs lightly on cloth, painting on the resist, applying acrylic paints, and then processing the finished artwork.
Use your finished work for a scarf, wall hanging, pillow cover, table runner or T-shirt. Simple black and white designs on paper will be available for use and inspiraion or you may bring your own. A pallet of colors will be provided, but participants may also bring their own favorite acrylic colors. Students should bring a variety of brushes for acrylic paint (see Supply List). No prevous art experience necessary. Beginners welcome.
Class Fee $70 / $65 for vac members, plus a $25 supply fee REGISTER ONLINE
