Samson uses many different techniques on the same piece to create a truly unique feel. He scratches and condenses glass colors many times over to create the patterning. The textured surface on the Hānau collection is 100% glass. When Samson adds the surface texture it covers the entire piece. He will then go through and carve away sections to reveal the pattern beneath.
Samson Tanoa Low is a native Hawaiian Glass artist born and raised in the islands of Hawaiʻi. Nature and his culture deeply influence the patterns and textures which appear on his glass. This shows through in his Hānau (Birth) collection which is inspired by Pele (goddess of fire). His Kai(ocean) collection depicts the deep and shallow waters surrounding the islands along with the currents. Making these beautiful pieces helps Samson to better connect to his culture and to share it with others.
