Robin Scanlon started her art life as a photographer. With her husband, Kris, she enjoyed a corporate photography business which offered opportunities to travel the world. After working as a photographer for more than forty years, she found that she was drawn to exploring other mediums. Watercolor, textiles, and mokuhanga have each offered new ways to think about image-making and expression.
“I am drawn to abstraction and to the use of simple forms as a visual language. My work often lives in a space of tension balanced by quiet. The work speaks to my response to the division and uncertainty in the world around us. Rather than illustrating specific events, I try to hold space for stillness. It is my hope that my work will invite the viewer to take a moment to pause.”
