“The pegboard has five turned pegs that are drilled to accept mounting screws as well as recesses for hand engraved brass discs. The second and fourth pegs have removable discs when removed provide access to the mounting screws for attaching to a wall. These two brass discs, (‘Iʻiwi and Pueo) have a rare earth magnet glued to the back which is held in place by magnetic attraction to the mounting screws. To gain access to these two mounting screws the brass discs can be removed by using the provided dowel that has magnets glued to the ends. Or a piece of sticky tape can be used to attach to and remove the discs. This is done to streamline and enhance the look of the installed pegboard.

The first, third and fifth pegs do not have removable discs. These three pegs are attached to the pegboard with woodscrews from the backside.

The wood finish is satin oil-based poly.  The brass has several coats of microcrystalline wax. The shine can be restored with a jeweler’s cloth and waxed. The five hand engraved brass discs depict five of Hawai’i’s native birds: ‘Alala̅, ‘Iʻiwi, ‘Elepaio, Pueo and the extinct ‘Ōʻo. ” – Bill
