The Spring Jazz Series continues on Saturday, May 16 and will feature the legendary trombonist Slyde Hyde, and special guest vocalist Yolee Hyde. They will join the VAC Jazz Ensemble with musical director Jr Volcano Choy on trumpet, keyboard & vocals, Reggie Griffin on guitar, Brian McCree on bass and Bruce David on drums.
Slyde Hyde began playing trombone in the 4th grade and he made his recording debut with the Stan Kenton Orchestra. Over his career, he has played & recorded with Count Bassie and his Orchestra, Woody Herman, Frank Sinatra, Herbie Hancock, Donna Summer, Carol King, Steely Dan, Tom Scott, The Temptations, and many others. Hyde has received four National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences MVP awards and has been inducted into the Rock & Roll/Jazz Hall of Fame.
Two shows will be offered, with a matinee at 4:30pm and an evening performance at 7:30pm. Tickets for the matinee are $15 for VAC members ($18 non-members) and for the evening show are $18 for VAC members ($20 non-members).
