DESCRIPTION:Join Mary Milelzcik at Volcano Art Centerʻs Niaulani Campus
  (19-4074 Old Volcano Road) on Saturday\,  March 7\, 2026 from 10 am â€
 “ 2:30 pm\, for the Mixed Media Encaustics Workshop.\nEncaustic is a mix
 ture of beeswax\, damar resin and pigment\, which is applied to a solid 
 absorbent surface. Each time a new layer is applied\, it must be fused. 
 The layers can be enhanced by adding fine art papers\, carving with tool
 s or drawing with pigment\, oil sticks etc. Photographs can be transferr
 ed\, and other materials embedded to create a variety of amazing results
  with depth.\nThis is a workshop where you’ll learn safe studio practi
 ces\, encaustic painting basics\, how to make your own medium\, and set 
 up an inexpensive encaustic studio. Various encaustic techniques\, photo
  transfer\, and shellac burns will be demonstrated. Experiment with comb
 ining encaustics to your current paintings\, photography\, sculpture\, e
 tc. Or\, just come to have a great time creating and making new friends!
  You will have the opportunity to create two encaustic paintings to take
  home with you.\nMary will provide a large variety of encaustic paints\,
  along with wood panels\, and handmade paper to use as substrates\, an a
 ssortment marking tools and brushes\, and interesting papers\, photograp
 hs\, minerals\, fibers\, and other natural and found materials for stude
 nts to incorporate into their paintings. Students are encouraged to brin
 g their own images\, photographs\, and other items they’d like to add 
 to their encaustic pieces.\nStudents may email the instructor in advance
  with questions\, and to discuss special projects. The class fee is $70/
 $65 for VAC members plus a $55 supply fee. To register\, call Volcano Ar
