SUMMARY:Introduction to Ulana Lauhala
DESCRIPTION:Join VAC Gallery artist\, June Dalde\, in an introduction to
  Ulana lauhala\n(weaving of Hala leaves). Wednesdays\, February 4th to 
 February 18th\, 2026  (3 sessions)\, from 2:30pm to 4pm. Ages 12 years 
 old and up.\n\nLauhala is the traditional Hawaiian art of weaving with 
 the dried leaves of the hala tree (Pandanus tectorius)\, a practice tha
 t has deep cultural significance. The term "lau hala" literally means "h
 ala leaf\," and the durable\, long leaves are prepared by cleaning\, dry
 ing\, and cutting them into strips before being woven into a wide array 
 of items.\n\nThis Introductory class will focus on three individual proj
 ects\, honing skilled needed for weaving leaves of the Hala tree.\nHala 
 trees are found throughout the islands and are abundant here on the Big 
 Island of Hawaii. All the lauhala in June's projects are handpicked and 
 processed. June makes it an all-day outing to gather the lau (leaf) and 
 clean them before bringing them home. The lau will be prepared to weave
  into various objects for the classes. She will teach you how to make b
 racelets\, flowers and ornaments.\n\nClass Fees -$55/ $45 for VAC membe
