The Volcano Art Center’s Jazz in the Forest series continues on Saturday, March 9, at 5:30 pm at Volcano Art Center Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village. The evening features  Jean Pierre Thoma and the Jazztones. 

We begin on March 9, with our “Maiden Voyage” concert which includes compositions from around the world of jazz. On this initial jazz adventure for our jazz music year, we will feature compositions that will take us through the history of our special American and world music, such as “April in Paris”, and “Strasbourg St. Denis”, to more down-home pieces such as “Watermelon Man” and “Speak No Evil”. The band will include Jean Pierre Thoma -JP – on flute, and saxophones,  Asha Azama on keyboards and vocals, Joey Carroll on acoustic and electric bass, and vocals, and the great percussionist Russell Lundgren.  Come and enjoy “A Lovely Day”  with us.

Our schedule at the Volcano Art Center for later this year will include special tributes to George Gershwin, a historic tour through the varied life of the guitar in America from rural blues to avant-garde electronics, and visitation to the giants of our jazz musical history.  Plans include our regular seasonal concerts, with new twists and turns.  Don’t miss any of this exciting year of jazz.
