East African Handbuilding for Keiki with Erik Wold

Tuesdays, 3:30 – 5:00 pm, January 5 – February 9

A series of 6 ceramics classes for children ages 8 to 15 at Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Campus. This unique method of forming pots by hand is the perfect introduction to working with clay. It is very accessible to the beginner of any age with plenty of opportunity for creative expression and developing skill. We will be constructing forms by hand with simple tools and decorating our pots with found objects. On the final day of the series kept work will be loaded into a barrel for a pit firing. Students will be invited back the next week to help unload their finished pots from the cooled barrel. After much practice, teaching artist Erik Wold is excited to share what he has learned from a master class taught by world renowned potter Magdalene Odundo. If you have any questions about this class please contact Erik at potterybyerikwold@gmail.com

Fee: $120/$110 VAC Members plus a $20 supply fee
