Numbered 7 of a small edition of 14. Depicts two ‘Alea ‘Ula (Hawaiian Moorhens), which are endangered and endemic to Hawai’i. They are associated with a Hawaiian legend that states that the bird knew the secret of fire but refused to tell the humans until Maui got them to reveal their secret. After he learned the secret of fire from the ‘Alea ‘Ula, he marked their faces red.This block print is framed behind UV-resistant plexiglass, but may also be purchased unframed for $1,800.
