Product Description
Kaula, multi color woodcut by Gretchen Grove.
Kaula (rope or cord) was a significant component in the lives of ancient Hawaiians. It was used to bind the timbers of their hale (house) and lash together the parts of the wa’a (canoes). Fishing nets and lines were made of it as were hanging devices for umeke (bowls). The finest kaula was woven into a base for the feather cloaks worn by the Ali’i Nui.
Dimensions: 12″ x 15″ framed to 17″ x 21″
