Legendary Gourd Compass, pyrography on gourd with coconut fiber by Gary Eoff.
The legendary navigation gourd compass has a net across the rim aligned to the star houses. To calibrate the star compass, Akau, the north star house, was aligned with the north star. The gourd was filled with water and the stars were reflected and tracked as they rose from the east. An ancient teaching tool.
