The Volcano Art Center’s 2017 Hula Kahiko series continues on Saturday, October 21 at 10:30am with a performance by Hālau Na Kipuʻupuʻu under the direction of Kumu hula Micah Kamohoaliʻi.

Members of Hālau Na Kipuʻupuʻu are well known for their powerful performances as well as revitalizing many ancient art forms and practices not commonly seen within hula today.  They are most famed among the hula community for revitalizing the art and practice of creating kapa.  Kamohoali‘i and his hālau will be on hand after the performance displaying the unique hand-made regalia and props used.

Kumu Kamohoaliʻi is also known as a professional artist, producing works in many mediums such as lei making, feather working, photography, printing, painting, clothing, wood and stone carvings, film production and traditional Hawaiian kapa.  In all that he does he honors his kūpuna for who he is.

The performance will take place in a one-of-a-kind outdoor setting at the kahua hula (hula platform) in the Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park.  Audience members are encouraged to bring sun/rain gear and sitting mats.  National Park entrance fees may apply.
