Born on Maui and raised on the Big Island, Amalie Dorn has been working in glass since she can remember. Her mother , Marian Fieldson is her mentor and teacher, greatly influencing her entire life, and is "why I do what I do". She is happily married to her high school sweetheart, and they have 3 sons. When she became a mom, her jewelry making hobby turned into a home-based business. She uses special glass cutting tools and a glass kiln, plus lots of practice and patience. Her unique design came to her in a dream, and her son named them "Fireworks". In 2003 she won a national design contest, "Your Design Here" by Rings and Things. Her work can now be found in 12 national airport gift shops as well as in international galleries. Besides being a professional glass artist, she is also an event promoter, and loves to cook. She and her family spend a lot of time hiking and exploring the Volcanoes National Park. artist's statement...
